Rio Grande do Norte
Located among the states of Paraíba (south) and Ceará (west), it occupies an area of 53.167 sq kilometers divided into 152 cities distribuited over 19 micron regions.
Owner of natural wonders as the dunes of Genipabu that creates a scenery of great beauty, and its adventures by bugres or by camels in the movable or fixed dunes, the state has got beaches of crystalline, calm, warm and green water, white sands, gardens of coconut palms and rafts.
The cashew tree of Pirangi is considered by the Guiness Book the largest of the world, with tree tops that measure more than 8.000 sq meters and produces from 70.000 to 80.000 fruits per year. The Artistas Beach, in Natal – the capital, is visited by surfers, and has an exciting night life at the bars and restaurants of the seaside. At the Ponta Negra Beach we can find lodges, hotels, restaurants and bars besides the famous Morro do Careca one of the postcards of the city.
The cooton cultivation had an important participation in the economic development of Rio Grande do Norte and now the livestock is one of the most strong economic activities of the state. It also has a salt pole in the coastal area which feeds the Areia Branca Port, becoming responsible for 90% of the national production of salt. The state is also one of the largest land petroleum exploring centers in Brazil. These activities are responsable for the economic growth of the area.
