Piauí
Located among the states of Maranhão (west), Ceará and Pernambuco (east), Bahia (south and southeast) and Tocantins (south), Piauí occupes an area of 251.273 sq kilometers containing 148 cities and is divided into 15 micron regions.
Unlike other Brazilian coastal states, Piauí was conquered from the country to the coast, which caused a narrow piece of land formation in the coast and a prolongation in the country. Its capital is Teresina that borders the Parnaíba river. The state is characterized by its low altitudes, plains and half-humid plains. The great amount of elevations is responsible for the appearance of grandious geological formations.
Teresina, the capital of the state, is considered one of the first cities in Brazil that has been projected before been urbanized. Teresina is surrounded by two rivers. The vegetation of Piauí is characterized by the crub savanna, savannah and Agreste, occupying almost the whole state. There are also areas of dense forest and gardens of coconut palms, where the babassu and carnaúba palm trees prevail. Its craft is considered point of great economic importance, as well as its folklore and dances.
Piauí is a state that invests in the production of renewable and ecological fuel, as the alcohol extracted from the sugar cane and the biodiesel extracted from the soybean, babassu, dendê and specialy from the mamona’s oils. Brazil is considered a country that completely dominates the technology in these areas and the Ministry of the Agrarian Development, the Ministry of the Social Development and the Eletrobrás, are making this partnership of great importance with the Brasil Ecodiesel Company in Piauí.
