Maranhão

Located among the states of Pará (west), Piauí (east), Tocantins (south), it has an area of  329.556 sq kilometers with 218 cities and is divided into 21 micron regions.  

Maranhão is blessed by the nature. Its location and diversity of the ecosystems characterizes the state. Beaches, forests, savannahs, lakes and rivers are some of the attractions of Maranhão.

São Luís, the capital of  Maranhão, stands out for its Historical Center that had been recuperated. The architectural group is one of the most significant of Brazil, with about 3.500 properties of the XVIII and XIX centuries distributed throughout the neighborhoods of  Praia Grande, Desterro and Portinho. People can also find there stores, cinemas, museums, bars, restaurants and hotels.  

The Parque Nacional dos Lençóis Maranhenses, an ecological paradise with 155.000 he of dunes, rivers, lagoons and swamps, was formed through thousands of years by the action of the nature itself. The pluvial waters form lagoons that disperse practically in the whole area of the park as the Lagoa Azul and Lagoa Bonita lagoons, with the towns of Caburé, Atins and Mandacaru, are obligatory visiting points.  
 
The Government had as initiative together with the Management of the Industrial, Trade and Tourism Development, a group of actions that made possible the economic development of the area. The state now has a privileged situation of generating direct and indirect employments in the industrial sector and in the good and service industry . The state now is inserted among the principal development poles of the country, for its geographical and shipping port conditions.
